Bush is a Flip Flop

The Bush campaign has tried to paint Bush as a resolute leader while describing Kerry as a flip flopper ... but is that really true?

The Complete List of Bush Flip Flops

1. Bush Flip Flopped on whether we can win the War on Terror. First we can't, then we can.

2. Bush Flip Flopped on why we went to Iraq. First he told the American people it was about WMD, now he says it was about spreading democracy (even though he is not doing a very good job of that in Iraq).

3. Bush Flip Flopped on the siege of Fallujah. First he ordered the Marines to attack. Then he reversed his own order and told them to pull out, leaving the town in the hands of the insurgents to this day. This Flip Flop was so harmful that the Marine officer in charge of the aborted siege took the unusual step of criticizing President Bush while still on active duty.

4. Bush Flip Flopped on the 9/11Commission. First he opposed it, then he supported it. First he opposed their recommendations, then he embraced them, and then he backpedaled on accepting them.

5. Bush Flip Flopped on Steel Tariffs and Free Trade. He's for free trade, then he's for steel tariffs, and then he's back to being in favor of free trade again.

6. Bush Flip Flopped on giving the new intelligence director budget powers. First he opposed it, now he supports it.

7. Bush Flip Flopped on letting Condoleeza Rice testify before the 9/11 Commission. First he opposed it, then he allowed it.

8. Bush Flip Flopped on finding Osama Bin Laden. First he was committed to finding him, then he dropped that commitment.

9. Bush Flip Flopped on whether he is a war president. First he is, then he's not.

10. Bush Flip Flopped on the Homeland Security Department. First he was against it, then he was for it.

11. Bush Flip Flopped on nation-building. First he opposed it, now he's spending all our resources doing it.

12. Bush Flip Flopped on the ‘Road Map’ for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. First he opposed new Israeli settlements on the West Bank, then he supported them.

13. Bush Flip Flopped on testifying before the 9/11 Commission. First he refused to testify, then he agreed to testify for just one hour, then he agreed to more time if Cheney came with him.

14. Bush Flip Flopped on campaign finance reform. First he said they were part of the American process, then he opposed them.

15. Bush Flip Flopped on 527 groups. First he promised he would veto the McCain-Feingold legislation, then he signed it into law.

16. Bush Flip Flopped on the Assault Weapons Ban. In 2000 he promised he would extend it, but this year he quietly allowed it to expire.

Kerry changes his position when there is a good reason to do so

Bush is much worse because he frequently changes his position for solely political reasons. For a comparison of Kerry and Bush on Flip Flopping, click HERE.

Are all of these attacks on Bush fair? Some are and perhaps some are not. But this list and the complete list demonstrate that Bush is just like any other politician - he changes his position when it is to his political advantage. Kerry may not be immune from the Flip Flop disease, but neither is Bush. A resolute leader, Bush is not.
